Shoreham Beachbox is a striking contemporary architecture proposal for a café and community space on Shoreham Beach Green.

The proposed building recognises it’s specific context and is positioned on the central axis of the green. Set into the sloping site it allows level access to both floors, a roof terrace takes advantage of the views to both the north, of river Adur, and south, towards the panoramic views of the sea.

The building form expresses its relatively simple structure and the desire to have a series of levels with pedestrian access.

The café level is conceived as a picture frame for the views, framing the view to the north and blocking views to the residential properties to east and west.

The lower ground floor plinth is proposed as timber board shuttered concrete with weathered steel as cladding to the upper ground floor café – a nod to the beach side location, near the Shoreham port and the nearby cement factories.
